July 2024 Newsletter
Avoid the summer school break and save up to £511

Yes it's true. By holidaying just one or two weeks before the summer school holidays start, you can, as in the case of Broadland Galaxy below, save a massive £511. So this monthly newsletter is focusing on the huge savings to be made if you can avoid the late July to the end of August peak season. Plus, the rivers won't be as busy, the days are longer and the weather should be as good, if not better than August.

There is still good availability, as the Euros and the upcoming general election have taken the focus off holidays for many. But once these two distractions are out of the way, these shoulder dates will start to fill quite fast. If you're thinking of a holiday afloat and you're able to book and pay now, your choice of craft will be much wider if you get in before the inevitable rush starts in a week or two (less if our Euros dream doesn't end well).

Norfolk Broads Towns and Villages - Norwich

Norwich Yacht Station

The city of Norwich marks the limit of navigation for hire boats. Having cruised up the river Yare until its junction with the river Wensum, you will approach Norwich city centre passing many warehouses which have recently been converted into luxury waterside apartments. Eventually, you will see the moorings at Norwich Yacht Station (not just for yachts). You can either stop at the office to pay your moorings fees (£8 between 10 am and 6 pm or £16 to include the overnight stay) or continue on, moor up then return to the office. You are advised to put your mud-weight out and tie ropes back onto your boat. There has been some noise disturbance on Friday and Saturday nights due to the close proximity of Norwich's night scene so you might be advised to avoid these nights or just visit during the day.

Local Attractions: Norwich is a fine city that has everything for the visitor including a stunning cathedral, the Castle Museum and Art Gallery, a thriving outdoor market, indoor modern shopping centres, department stores, cinemas, and theatres.

Eating and Drinking: There are too many bars and restaurants in Norwich to list here. Those closest to the Yacht Station are The Compleat Angler which is located just across the bridge located at the start of the moorings and Lollards Pit which is situated near the bridge at the opposite end of the moorings. A Wetherspoons, TGI Fridays, and Frankie & Benny's outlets are within walking distance, just beyond Norwich train station.

Other Services: The Yacht Station has showers and toilets on-site which are free to those paying the mooring fees. Rubbish disposal and free water are also available. The site is security fenced with CCTV. There are many shops within walking distance as is Norwich Rail Station. Norwich is a large city famous for its cathedral and castle, both of which are must-sees. The city centre is a 15-minute walk from the Yacht Station moorings, which are close to Norwich railway station for those not wanting to make the journey up by boat. Upon arriving at the Yacht Station, there is usually space to moor outside the office to pay your mooring fees. Once paid continue upstream to a suitable stopping point. Norwich has an abundance of shopping facilities including an outdoor market, banks, a 24-hour walk-in doctor's surgery, bars, restaurants, and nightspots.

TIP: We recommend avoiding Friday, Saturday, and Sunday overnight stays here as the yacht station is adjacent to Norwich's vibrant night venues which makes for noisy weekends.
