We've also had enquiries for breaks to cover Valentines Day. There's a limited number of "winter tolerant" boats available to hire. It’s that time of year when everyone’s getting in early for their summer bookings – especially for the August school holidays, which always get snapped up fast! Right now, bookings are on track with last year, but we saw August pretty much sell out for most weeks in 2024. The good news is, you can secure your dream boat now, giving you the chance to choose the perfect date, price, layout, and level of comfort without any compromises. Once you’ve locked it in, you’ll have plenty of time to daydream about your getaway and plan all the fun things to do with your loved ones. Below are a few examples of what’s available, along with prices for different boat sizes and durations. Have a look and see what catches your eye!

Norfolk Broads Towns and Villages - South Walsham

South Walsham

South Walsham Broad is an expanse of navigable waterway to be found off the River Bure. It is connected to the main river by Fleet Dyke, a channel that winds for around three-quarters of a mile before opening out onto the Broad. You will find ample free moorings available in two locations on the left-hand bank as you approach the Broad. Be sure to cruise on into the Broad either before or after mooring as it is very picturesque. The village of South Walsham is a 30 to 45-minute walk away from the moorings. You will need to walk down Fleet Lane, then Broad Lane before coming out onto School Road, past the Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden site. At the junction with The Street, turn right and continue on until you come across The Ship Inn (currently closed).

Local Attractions: Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens is a must-visit if you like woodland walks and water meadows and wildlife spotting. Measuring 130 acres with over 4 miles of woodland pathways this is the place to see a wildlife garden at its best including a nationally renowned collection of candelabra primulas at their best at springtime, butterflies, dragonflies, wildfowl, etc. The gardens have their own private broad which is accessible by an Edwardian-style river cruiser that operates 20 and 50-minute trips on Sundays or daily through the school holidays. More information can be found HERE. A fine 8-mile circular walk that borders the River Bure and Fleet Dyke has been put together by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The route will take around 4 hours to complete and includes treks through the villages of Upton and South Walsham. More information can be found HERE.

Eating and Drinking: The Ship Inn (currently closed) offers a wide choice menu promising home cooked food and light snacks. The Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens has a cafe on-site to which non-garden visitors are welcome, serving snacks, light lunches, sandwiches and home made cakes.

Other Services: There is a Post Office Stores beyond the Ship Inn in the village.
